The 3.3 non-pae kernels are built for either live and standard system, hence this area now has two types of kernel. The live system is for those building an installer image such as the standard ubuntu one, where you can run it in live mode. The alternate system is for servers / alternate installers that do not need the 'live' ability. Both systems will work fine, just that are slightly different in how they install and can handle both non-pae and forcepae versions of 14.04 The 4.4 non-pae kernel is based on 16.04, this works for both alternate and live images.
